Association For Acquiring Corals

FAQ

How Does Voting Work?

1. In the few days before the 1st of the month, I will send an e-mail to all who have shown interest in the past, as well as make a post in the blog, asking people to express their interest in taking part in the next months vote. This will be so I can gauge the price of the corals I put up for a vote.
2. Even if you have not gotten back to me by the 1st, you may still vote on a coral.
3. On the 1st of the month, i will post 4-7 corals that will be voted on for the coming month.  I will posta poll on that portion of the blog.
4. All votes must be in by the 5th of the month
5. A vote constitutes an agreement to participate in the Acquisition for the month.
6. A person who votes and then backs out before the coral is purchased will get his/her money back, if they paid, but will not be allowed to participate in future acquisitions. This is to ensure that we have an accurate amount that each person has to pay before the coral is purchased.
*If the coral that is picked matches a coral in one of the voters tanks, that person may bow out without penalty

How will payment work?

1. Payments will be made via paypal. Please include a $1.50 payment to cover their processing fee, so I don't eat that cost for multiple people.
2. All payments must be in by the 9th
3. If you live outside of the Central Florida area, you will need to tell me your Zip so I can figure out shipping to your area.
4. Any costs that are posted for a coral will include shipping to the grower if necessary.

How will the purchase work?

1. Coral will be purchased by me on the 10th, or when all payments are received. Whichever comes first.
2. These corals must only be purchased from local sources, and pictures must be available, in other words, from an updated website.
*If anyone spots a badass coral in a LFS they may send me a pic with description and price and it will be considered for the next vote.

How will the growing work?

1. As of now, Mitch is our grower, as his tank is well suited for the task.
2. In a few months an AFAC specific frag tank will be set up using Mitch's 29G tank with Macs T5 setup, provided they are ok with this.
*Please understand that stuff happens, and the grower or AFAC cannot be held responsible for dying coral. To ensure proper care, the grower must give permission to allow anyone who wants to inspect the tank to do so within reason (Surprise visits at 11PM on a Tuesday will not fly. Appointments must be made)
**The grower must post weekly pictures so that AFAC members can monitor the growth of their coral
***I will happily volunteer myself to take care of the AFAC frag tank, if everyone is cool with that, as I feel very comfortable taking on the responsibility of keeping everyone's coral safe. I don't have a place for a frag tank, but we have some offers in on a couple of houses, so hopefully in a few months we will be in a house.
****So far we have a 29G tank and a T5 light fixture, anything else that people feel like they could donate to the cause will be appreciated, pump fuge etc.

When will we frag?

1. Once the coral is purchased, we will determine how big the coral must be before fragging it for distribution.
2. This will be determined by the type of coral and perceived growth rate
*Understand that the growing process in some cases may take up to a year, but provided we do this every month, we should start seeing proceeds within 6 months. Some corals will grow very fast, while others will be a snails pace. BE PATIENT

Is there anything else I should know?

1. I will be taking meticulous notes as far as who has bought what coral when where how much etc. I will e-mail this to anyone who wants to see it.
